About Ryan & Our Law School Coaching

Ryan has a Bachelor of Arts from Washington University in St. Louis and is currently pursuing a JD and MBA through Boston University’s three-year accelerated program.

During his 1L year, Ryan maintained straight A’s and ranked in the top 10% of his 1L cohort; commuted 3+ hours a day between Providence and Boston; nurtured a new marriage; excelled in BigLaw and Public Sector Recruitment, spending his 1L summer at the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office and gaining an offer to spend his 2L summer at Simpson Thacher Boston, and completed Ironman Triathlon 140.6 training.

Attending a non T-14 school, Ryan earned offers at three of the top four BigLaw firms in the country and secured his ideal 2L opportunity using his Five Pillars of Success Framework.

Ryan is passionate about mentorship and coaching, and he understands how to personalize his teaching style to the needs of each of the students he works with. Ryan caps the number of students he works with each year to ensure that each of his students receives his utmost attention and professionalism.

  • Ryan’s coaching methodology works. I quickly realized that I was overwhelmed with balancing success in the classroom with the volume of recruiting events necessary to succeed in BigLaw recruitment. Through working with Coach Ryan, I was able to clearly define my goals for my first year and implement systems that helped me achieve them.

Throughout my first year, I relied on Ryan’s Five Pillars of Success Framework to give me guidance. I sincerely do not think I could have ended up receiving an offer at my goal firm in my ideal market without working with Ryan. I highly recommend speaking with him to see how he can work with you to help transform your 1L year from one of stress and anxiety to one of countless successes!

  • I worked with Ryan to build my LSAT fundamentals and refine my personal statement, and I couldn’t recommend him more highly. During our study sessions, Ryan picked up on my thought process, caught the gaps in my understanding, and developed strategies to help the material stick. He was willing to sit with me on a single question for as long as it took to make sure I understood where my reasoning went wrong, rather than rushing ahead without my having learned anything.

On my personal statement, Ryan helped me talk through a number of ideas and distill them down to the core of what became my final draft. He helped me cut extraneous details that didn’t fit the narrative I was building, especially where they clashed with the rest of my application. I’m sure the time and effort we spent refining the draft will be reflected in this upcoming admissions cycle.

  • I do not come from a background of lawyers and was utterly shocked at how quickly recruiting started in my first year. I was very unsure of the best way to approach BigLaw recruitment to achieve success and working with Ryan helped me navigate the recruitment process to secure a BigLaw summer associate position.

Ryan always liked to say that through working with him “I was getting in the reps” to help me shine during networking events and interviews. After working with Ryan this year, I fully agree with this statement. During interviews, I felt well prepared for challenging questions and had developed the skills to think quickly on my feet and to adapt to the style of the interview. I attribute my interview confidence in large part to the work I did with Ryan and am very grateful I found Kahn Coaching.

  • As a KJD (Kindergarten to Law School without ever taking time off from pursuing my education), simultaneously managing my classes while immediately being pushed to recruit to law firms was extremely overwhelming. Working with Ryan transformed my anxiety around the recruiting cycle into enthusiasm.

Ryan’s mock interviews gave me an understanding of what kind of traits and characteristics the hiring partners were looking for and helped me refine the way I approached my interests and abilities in conversation. Ryan made me feel supported and on track when I otherwise would have felt lost.
